It has finally happened. Motionographers of the world today all finally held hands and sang a song of joy and excitement as Adobe and MAXON shared a brief piece of information regarding a much larger plan to bring After Effects and Cinema4D together in harmony.
When I first read the article I was excited. I mean, really excited. Here are the two biggest apps I use to be creative telling me that they will intentionally work together on a much higher level. So I sat there reading the brief announcement grinning ear to ear drooling to hear more knowing that something big was in play here.
And I Thought Some More
I know there isn’t any real direct intentionality in the Adobe / MAXON relationship right now, but you’re telling me that somehow things are going to get better?! Then I got really really excited. I have never had a single issue getting camera and 3D data from Cinema into After Effects, or vise versa. So the thought of those two apps somehow fitting together better inside of their workflow just has me on the edge of my seat.
Not much has been announced yet as to what all of this means. Just that the two companies realize that together they’re a huge driving force behind many many brilliant creative pieces. So why not team up and help us, the artists, out in somehow making that workflow easier and more exciting.
In the article I’ve linked at the bottom of this post Steve Forde says very plainly, “do what you know, and be the best at it.” I have had not a single complaint at the way AE and C4D hold hands so far, so I can’t imagine what kind of marital bliss will happen when the two companies purposefully work together to make some magic. I’m excited to see what this means for our industry’s future. Look out Autodesk, here comes the underdog(s).

One Last Thought
With April 1st approaching quickly, I’m also hoping this isn’t some elaborate setup for one of the meanest April Fool’s Jokes of all time… All we can do at this point is wait. And pray. Hard. I’m still waiting for my Legend of Zelda movie IGN… Jerks.
Please let me know what you guys think in the comments below, or on a more personal level on my twitter (@timmy_allen). That’s usually where the party is at. Do you feel as if this intentional merger is a good idea or a bad idea?! Why?! I look forward to chatting. See you on twitter.
