New Sub $3k Cinema Camera From Black Magic Design (Spec / Test Footage)

As NAB 2012 (National Association of Broadcasters Convention) Black Magic Design has moved from video processing to video creation with there new Cinema Camera. This new camera is 2.5k and has some sweet features.

Frame Rates and Record Times

In reading the fine print the camera is limited to a maximum frame rate of 30p, however you can record 5 MB/frame in RAW 2.5K fits about 30 minutes of 24p video on a 256 GB solid state disk. Compressed HD formats fit more than 5 times the amount of RAW video.



The camera a will run you $2,995 it ships this July and has optional handles for $195

Just read John Brawley's breakdown of this new cam from BMD. Pretty excited about the potential of this camera. Not in love with the clumsy shape, frame rates and solid state recording functions, however, Black Magic Design is well know for constantly updating/upgrading their products. So, I'll wait for a round or two or of add-ons/updates before considering purchasing this camera. Still, I can't believe that for $3k Black Magic is doing what Canon or Nikon should've been doing a long time ago; offering RAW uncompressed footage. Kudos to them.
